Early Victorian Panel Restoration Project

Below is a step-by-step view of the restoration of an early Victorian stained-glass panel.

I started with the customer's broken Victorian glass panel. Much of the glass was badly damaged and lead was was corroded. A decision was made to remove all of the old lead and strip it back to the original glass. All broken glass had to be replaced with a matching style of glass, which was sourced especially for its authentic look. A cartoon was made of the original design, exactly to scale. The cartoon was laid out on the workbench and I had to slowly build the panel back up combining the old and new glass with new lead-work. All joints were securly soldered and then the glass was cemented into place. Finally the finished piece was polished. The end result was this beautifully restored panel and one very pleased customer!
